Frequently asked questions

A vehicle wrap is a high-tech adhesive vinyl graphic decal that is applied directly over the original paint of the vehicle. Our wraps are printed on a solvent inkjet printer to produce full color digital graphics. Some highly customized specialty wraps consist of a automotive vinyl such as 3M 1080 series matte black, matte grey, colored and textured carbon fiber film, metallic vinyls such as gold, chrome and various colored chrome. The application of our vehicle wrap products allows you to change your vehicles appearance either slightly or drastically. Auto wraps are installed in a very short period of time and in turn allows you to quickly remove the wrap after an event or promotion to return your vehicle back to its original condition.

A lighted vehicle wrap is similar to a traditional vinyl vehicle wrap including similar graphic elements that are viewed normally during the daytime. Texas Car Wraps has the ability to use this new technology to light up specific areas of a vehicle wrap to make it illuminate at night. A lighted vehicle wrap is not a “glow in the dark” process, it is a electrically supplied wrap. Texas Car Wraps illuminated vehicle wraps utilize miniature flexible lighting elements that look like small scale neon lighting. The lighted elements are powered by electronic components and light drivers that are connected to the vehicles 12 volt electrical system. Texas Car Wraps lighted wraps are turned on by remote control or can be hard wired to a switch. Lighted vehicle wraps can be programmed to flash, blink, sequenced or supply a constant light output. Some people also refer to lighted wraps as neon vehicle wraps, LED vehicle wraps or just lighted vehicle wraps. More information can be found on our Lighted Vehicle Wrap website – NightWraps.com

Vehicle wraps, bus wraps, trailer wraps, transit wraps and corporate fleet wraps, consist of three phases. The first is the graphic design phase – which includes getting accurate measurements, photographs for the vehicle and computer design of the printed graphics to be applied. The second phase – print production phase where the graphic is printed and then laminated (clear coated) to protect the vinyl from abrasions and the suns damaging solar UV rays. The third phase – installation where the vinyl is applied to your vehicle by a certified professional decal installer in San Antonio and surrounding areas of Texas. In some cases there is a fourth phase – which is the removal of vehicle graphics.

Anything less than a full paint coverage is called a “partial wrap”. A half wrap normally includes the full rear of the vehicle and halfway towards the front of the vehicle, coverage is approximately 50% of the paint surface. A three-quarters partial wrap normally includes the rear of the vehicle and about 4-5 feet down the side of the vehicle painted surface. A full wrap includes the entire surface of the vehicle except for the roof. Roof wraps are additional and are normally only done on small passenger vehicles or on vehicles that are viewed from high-rise buildings. See our “wrap process” page at www.Facebook.com/EagleFordGraphics for an illustration showing what a partial vehicle wrap looks like.

Texas Car Wraps warranties our digitally printed vehicle wraps for 5 years. Our 3m 1080 series specialty vehicle wrap films are warrantied by 3M to last up to 5 years. In our experience, we  recommend that wraps be removed by 5 years for a quick and clean wrap removal, otherwise vehicle wrap removal costs can increase substantially due to the extra labor involved.

No. A properly installed vehicle wrap will not damage factory paint jobs that are in good condition. Please note that vehicle wrap film does not stick to rust or textured plastic surfaces. If your vehicle has rust, chipped paint, peeling paint, an after market clear coat or after market vehicle paint an auto wrap may pull the paint or clear coat off when removed.

Yes. All vehicles must be free of dust, mud, wax, oil and other contaminants that may prevent the vinyl from adhering directly to the vehicle paint surface during the installation process. Please wash your vehicle before bringing it to us for your new wrap, but do not add wax or any other chemical to the paint. Our vehicle wrap installation technicians will finish prepping the paint surface by using specialized cleaners to remove unseen contaminates. We will be happy to wash your vehicle for you at an additional fee.

Vehicles can be designed and wrapped in as little as 24 hours when requested. We offer expedited vehicle wrap services for an extra fee. Our vehicle wraps are quoted with an installation time of 72 hours to allow for the detailed nature of a quality installation. Call us for details about our express car wrap service. 210-CAR-WRAP (210-227-9727)

Yes, you can have the damaged pieces or panels of your vehicle wrap replaced after your vehicle is completely repaired by the auto body and paint shop. You normally do not need to replace the entire vehicle wrap if the damage is limited to certain areas of the vehicle. We are very good at color matching digitally printed vehicle wrap panels and each repair will be quoted and evaluated on an individual basis.

You must always obtain permission form the vehicle owner to wrap a leased or rented vehicle. Most leased or rented vehicles have factory paint jobs with excellent paint quality. Vinyl applied over factory paint is best because vinyl can be removed easily. We have wrapped numerous rented and leased vehicles for temporary promotional advertisements without incident or damage.

There is not a better cost effective advertising method available than a properly produced vehicle wrap. It is a proven fact that the cost per impression of a vehicle wrap is less than other forms of advertising such as billboards, television, radio, and yellow pages. If you are using your vehicle graphics application to customize your vehicle, vehicle graphics cannot be duplicated by traditional methods like paint or airbrushing. The automotive customizing creativity is unlimited when considering all of the types and brands of automotive films available. We primarily use 3M automotive films when possible, but also us other manufacturers such as Hexis, Oracal, Avery, 3M Scotch Print, and 3M DI-NOC for special flat surface applications.

Yes, a properly prepped and installed wrap with the proper automotive wrap film can be removed cleanly. Please be careful when choosing your vehicle wrap supplier. We have helped many clients replace vehicle wraps produced by suppliers that lack the proper knowledge and experience with vehicle wrap design, vehicle wrap prep, correct choice of films and most importantly – application techniques. We have seen vehicles cut with knives or damaged by improper use of film for the application. We use a knifeless cutting system to eliminate knife damage to vehicles or boats. Visit our production facility for a demonstration on why Texas Car Wraps is a better choice than other San Antonio vehicle wrap companies.

You can see through window graphics that are printed on perforated window film. Window perf vinyl is perforated vinyl with thousands of very small holes that allow you to see out from the inside of the vehicle, interior visibility is similar to regular window tint. From the outside, only the graphic is visible during the daylight hours.

We will replace any wrap panel that prematurely fails due to material failure at no charge for up to 7 years. If you are involved in an accident, we will work with your auto insurance company to bring your car, truck or trailer wrap back to its original condition. We do not warranty wraps on plastic, silicone or rubber areas because the automotive film is not designed for these surfaces. We stand behind all of our work so if there are any issues we will give you our full attention to make that you are fully satisfied customer.

Yes. As long as a high quality vinyl product was installed using proper installation techniques, the wrap can be removed without problems and without leaving any glue residue and without removing paint. The only glue that may have to be cleaned off with alcohol would be any areas where “Primer adhesive promoter” was used. For this reason, we keep our use of 3M primer adhesive to areas that absolutely need it.

If you have an old wrap on your vehicle that you want to replace or remove, we will be happy to give you an estimate on removing it. If we did not produce and install it, then we cannot say what the paint looks like under the wrap, but we have very professional and gentle methods of removing old wraps and there will be no damage caused by improper vinyl removal methods. We can remove wraps, stripes, vinyl lettering from cars, vans, boats, trucks, trailers or box trucks without damaging the vehicle’s paint surface. If high quality vinyl was used on the wrap, removal will be less costly because no glue should be left behind to clean up. If cheap vinyl was used, cleaning the glue that is left behind will significantly add to the cost of wrap removal. Also, if no overlaminate was used, removing the wrap will be more costly. If a quality vinyl and over laminate is used when the wrap is installed, you will save money when it comes time for the wrap to be removed. So don’t look for the cheapest quote on a wrap without knowing about the brand of vinyl and over laminate that is being installed. Quotes of vinyl removals will be estimated, but final price is based on an hourly rate of the time it takes to remove the vinyl film. Any quote for removal is only to give a general idea of what the cost may be.

Yes, it can be taken through a “touchless or laser” car wash without any problems. It is better not to use high pressure washers because it is possible for the pressurized water to lift a corner of the wrap, which could lead to problems. The wrap can be waxed using a specially formulated wax for vehicle wraps. Contact us for details.

No. Small amounts of heat is used to soften the vinyl while installing the wrap. Applied heat will relax the vinyl so that it will regain its original shape, and can be applied without wrinkles. Heat has to be used carefully to prevent “washing out” of the print and distortion of the vinyl. Heat is also used to “set” the wrap after the installation is complete. Our experienced installers will carefully use heat to remove the “memory” from the installed wrap vinyl so that it will permanently retain it’s final shape where it is installed.

Only pictures that are a high resolution can be used on a wrap. Most pictures from the internet are greatly reduced in size and optimized for loading quickly into a web browser. Unless you have high resolution pictures, photos downloaded from the internet will not have enough resolution to produce a crystal clear final product on your vehicle wrap. We will be happy to help you source the proper format images that you will need for a quality vehicle wrap. We can also purchase professional photography that is suitable to use on large format graphic advertisements. Send any questions about image quality to [email protected].

In the vehicle wrap business, “You get what you pay for”. Unfortunately, many companies are using cheaper vinyl products and or not laminating at all or using liquid laminate instead of the much more durable (and more costly) film lamination process. This special clearcoat layer filters out the sun’s ultra violet rays and prevents damage to the graphic and protects the printed auto wrap from scratches. Lamination also greatly increases its attractive life and allows the vehicle wrap to be easily and cleanly removed after years of use. Not using film lamination, or using liquid laminate will greatly reduce the appearance and lifespan of the wrap and make it very difficult to cleanly remove the graphics when that time comes. Unfortunately, this is usually where shops will save on production costs to sell a wrap at a lower cost at the customer’s expense. A vehicle wrap is not the type of product that you want to cut corners to save a little money.

No, the vehicle wrap film is opaque, it does not allow you to see the color beneath it.

Yes, the window graphics are printed on a perforated window film that allows the vehicle occupants to see through the windows from inside of the vehicle.

Yes, Texas state law prohibits the use of window film on the front three windows if the vehicle is used on a public roadway. (windshield, driver front door glass and passenger front door glass)

Yes, we normally do not wrap roofs on larger vehicles (vans, trucks or SUVS), unless it is requested by the customer. Wrapping roofs will increase overall production costs.

A well done car wrap looks much more appealing and allows you the option to show photographs of your product or service.
